Sauromatum venosum

This is an amazing and fun plant to grow. It has a huge leaf on a spotty stem and when it flowers it smells disgusting. It is hardy and can be left to clump up but best is to dig it up when the leaf has collapsed and leave it in a drawer for the winter. It will start to grow in the spring without being planted and can flower on a window sill. The smell is somewhat like what you would get if you went on holiday for a fortnight and left a full bin bag in the front room. In its early years it grows incredibly quickly. In a season it can quadruple in diameter and will also produce 5 or more offsets.

If this 5cm corm continued to grow at this rate (and if nutrients were available... and if the necessary weight of the leaf did not become too great to be supported by the stem)...

In just 13 years it would be the same size as the moon

In just 14 years it would be the same size as the earth (and it would have generated more offsets than the current population of the earth)

In just 18 years it would be nearly 3 times the size of the sun. So when they take over the world and make us their slaves don't say I didn't warn you

Amorphophallus konjac

Amorphophallus dunnii

Amorphophallus A200 - species from China

Amorphophallus bulbifer   like konjac but with coarser and more shiny foliage - oh and rather distasteful pink flowers. It hasn't flowered yet but I can't wait.
